Weather and time
This view looks over the Atlantic shoreline of Plum Island from a raised position just above the dunes. Surf rolls onto a wide sandy beach that runs south along the right side of the frame.
Plum Island is a barrier island on the Massachusetts coast, separated from the mainland by Plum Island Sound. Its ocean side faces east into the Gulf of Maine and is backed by dunes and beach houses, with the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge covering the rest of the island to the south. A wooden stair and a rock wall at the lower right show where the dune meets the beach.
The sea itself is the subject here. Unlike the Plum Island Point cameras, which look at the river and the entrance between the jetties, this angle faces open ocean and follows the shore to the south, so it shows swell and the line of breakers instead of boat channels.
