Weather and time

This rooftop camera of the peregrine falcon watch in downtown Wilmington, Delaware, looks along a flat roof toward a wide river on the horizon. A stone parapet runs down the left side, with streets and low buildings far below it.

It is one of two outdoor views that accompany the nest box cameras on the Brandywine Building, where falcons have raised young since 2002. Peregrines hunt other birds over the city and use high roofs and ledges as lookouts. After the young learn to fly in May and June, they spend July learning to hunt and begin to disperse in late July and early August.

The north roof view takes in the river, the industrial land and ponds along its near shore, a dark raised wall at the end of the roof and a black vent pipe in the foreground. It looks wider across the city than the east roof camera, which faces one parapet corner.
