Weather and time
This camera looks onto a bald eagle nest high in a riverside tree on the Little Miami River near South Lebanon, Ohio. The broad platform of sticks sits beside a pale trunk, with bare limbs reaching to the left and wooded hills beyond.
The Little Miami flows 111 miles (179 km) through southwestern Ohio to the Ohio River and is protected as a National Wild and Scenic River. Ohio had only four nesting pairs of bald eagles in 1979, and hundreds of nests are active today. The camera has watched this nest since 2021, and its resident pair is known as Bette and Baker. They have laid two or three eggs each February since 2022, and the young leave the nest in June.
The framing shifts during the day, at times centring on the nest bowl and at times on the bare limbs where eagles perch. The river itself stays hidden beneath the canopy of the wooded valley.
