Weather and time

From the platform of the historic Laramie Railroad Depot in Wyoming, the camera looks out over a wide Union Pacific yard of parallel tracks. Lines of covered hoppers stand on the far tracks, and a long steel truss overpass crosses the yard in the distance.

The depot sits on Union Pacific's Laramie Subdivision, part of the original Overland Route, near milepost 565.4 on the west side of Sherman Hill. The line carries heavy freight, including intermodal, manifest, coal and grain trains. Passenger trains no longer stop here, since Amtrak's Pioneer was cancelled in 1997.

The camera does not hold one angle. It swings between a wide look across the whole yard, a closer view down the platform edge with the rails running away, and tight shots of rail cars and signals. After dark, yard floodlights and signal lamps mark the tracks.
