Weather and time
A trackside camera in Cohutta, Georgia, looks along a curving Norfolk Southern main line with two tracks beside a wooded cut. Gravel ballast and a grassy bank fill the foreground, with tall pines rising behind the far track.
Cohutta is a small town in Whitfield County, just south of the Tennessee line. The rails in view are Norfolk Southern's Atlanta North District, the Atlanta to Chattanooga main line inherited from the Southern Railway. A quieter branch, the Cohutta District, runs nearby; its roots reach back to the Hiwassee Railroad of 1836.
The camera stands low beside the nearest track, so the rails run away from the lower right toward a bend among the trees. The frame holds the gravel apron, a bank of bare red soil and a stand of pines, and a long train fills its width when it passes.
