A camera above the tracks in downtown Austell, Georgia, overlooks a Norfolk Southern grade crossing and the storefronts beyond. Two main tracks cross the foreground, a gravel lot lies behind them, and the street meets the rails at signals on the right.

Austell is a small city in Cobb County, west of Atlanta. Two Norfolk Southern routes meet at its junction: the Atlanta North District toward Chattanooga and the line west to Birmingham, both of Southern Railway heritage. Amtrak's Crescent uses the Birmingham line and passes through once in each direction.

The camera looks down on the rails from a raised position, so a fence, a strip of grass and the near tracks fill the lower frame. Beyond the lot stand a flat-roofed commercial building and low brick shops, with crossing signals and a utility pole at the right edge.
