Weather and time
From a hillside viewing platform in Donghe, Taitung County, the camera looks across Jinzun Bay to a sand spit and fishing port. It turns between this wide bay view and close-ups of the breakwater, the rocky islet and the surf.
Jinzun takes its name from the goblet shape of the bay, which is also likened to an anchor. A sand spit ties a rocky islet to the shore, a rare landform for Taiwan, and the dark-sand beach runs for about three kilometers. Swimming is not allowed because the beach drops away steeply. Surf contests are held at the fishing port in winter.
The wide view takes in the curve of the beach, the spit and islet, and the long breakwater with a red beacon at its end. Zoomed views pick out cars parked on the pier, waves breaking along the shore and the open Pacific to the horizon.
