African Safari, Mpumalanga Live Cam

A game vehicle carries this webcam on its bonnet through a reserve in Mpumalanga, in the northeast of South Africa. The ranger drives the track in front of the lens, and the bush opens out on both sides as the vehicle moves.

Drives go out around sunrise and again in the late afternoon, when animals are moving and the heat has dropped, and the ranger talks through what the tracks and signs show. Lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino and leopard all live in this part of the lowveld, but nothing is staged.

Long stretches of a drive show only track, grass and thorn trees. That is the point of it: what appears in the frame depends entirely on what the vehicle happens to find.
