Penguins, Silesian Zoo Live Cam

Artificial rock with nesting burrows rises above the pool in the Humboldt penguin enclosure at the Silesian Zoo, in Poland. A wooden ramp leads from the shingle down to the water.

The burrows copy what the species uses in the wild, where pairs nest in guano and rock cavities along the coasts of Peru and Chile. The birds are named after the cold current that runs up that shore.

The zoo occupies part of the Silesian Park in Chorzów, on the ground between Chorzów, Katowice and Świętochłowice, and is among the largest in the country. This webcam pans across the enclosure, so the pool, the shingle and the burrow faces come round in turn.
