Weather and time
This camera looks at To-no-hetsuri in Shimogo, Fukushima, a row of tower-like cliffs carved by the river above deep green water. Layered pale rock, ledges and overhangs line the bank, and a suspension bridge crosses to the formations.
To-no-hetsuri is a National Natural Monument on the Okawa River, the upper course of the Agano River, in the Minamiaizu district. Long erosion and weathering shaped the cliffs into forms that resemble towers. In the local dialect, hetsuri means a steep cliff along a river, and a path runs along the ledges on the far bank.
The camera changes its framing. It shows a wide view of the cliffs with the suspension bridge and visitors crossing it, closer shots of single rock towers above the water, and the steps cut into the rock on the opposite bank. On cool mornings mist rises from the river and softens the view.
