Weather and time
A long telephoto view runs south across central Niigata to the wing-shaped roof of Denka Big Swan Stadium beyond Toyanogata lagoon. Apartment blocks, offices and low rooftops fill the foreground.
Big Swan is the home ground of Albirex Niigata and hosted matches of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. It stands in a sports park on the southern shore of Toyanogata, a lagoon ringed by parkland. Beyond it the Echigo Plain, a major rice-growing area, reaches the horizon.
The camera faces south from the 20th floor of a tower in the Bandai district, and the zoom compresses several kilometres of city into one frame, so the stadium seems to rise just behind the rooftops. Unlike the nearby views of Bandai Bridge and the Shinano River mouth, this angle shows the inner city blocks.
