Nishiki Market, Kyoto Live Cam

A narrow lane at the eastern end of Nishiki Market in central Kyoto passes directly below this webcam, a few steps from the covered arcade. A sign marks the street as pedestrian between seven in the morning and eight at night, and shoppers pass the shopfronts on the right.

Nishiki has been a food market for some four hundred years and runs for five blocks under a coloured roof, with stalls selling pickles, dried fish, tofu, knives and tea. The lane in view is one of the side approaches, where deliveries arrive and where the market meets the shopping streets around Teramachi.

Stalls shut in the early evening and the arcade empties quickly after that. The busiest hours are late morning and early afternoon, when the passage narrows to a single moving line of people.
