Weather and time
This camera at the top of Jukkoku Pass in Kannami, Shizuoka, looks down over a wide plain towards Suruga Bay. In the foreground a cable car track runs down a grassy slope to a red-roofed building and a car park.
Jukkoku Pass lies on the border of Atami and Kannami, at the neck of the Izu Peninsula, south of Hakone. Its name means ten provinces, after the old claim that ten of them can be seen from the summit. A short cable car, about 316 metres long, climbs the slope in roughly three minutes. At the top is a viewing terrace called Panorama Terrace 1059.
This is the camera pointed towards the bay rather than the volcano. Forested ridges fill the middle of the frame, towns spread across the plain beyond them, and the sea shows as a thin blue band under the horizon. A second camera at the same terrace faces Mount Fuji.
