Weather and time
This rooftop camera in the Kamonomiya area of Odawara looks west across the city to Mount Fuji rising behind wooded ridges. In the middle of the frame, Tokaido Shinkansen trains cross between rows of pylons, plant buildings and tiled house roofs.
Kamonomiya lies on the eastern side of Odawara, a castle town on Sagami Bay in Kanagawa Prefecture. The district was the base of the Shinkansen model line, where prototype trains began test runs in 1962, two years before the line opened. The summit of Mount Fuji stands about 40 kilometres away, so the peak shows up only when the air is clear.
The camera holds one fixed view, with the cone of Mount Fuji above a low saddle in the nearer ridges. High-voltage pylons and gantries crowd the left side, while white plant buildings line the tracks on the right.
