Weather and time
This river camera looks at the Hidaka River just upstream of Choshi Bridge in the Kokamoto area of Hidakagawa, Wakayama. The frame shows the blue steel girder resting on two concrete piers, with a red and white striped scale on the nearer one.
Kokamoto is one of the small districts of Hidakagawa strung along the middle reaches of the Hidaka River. Here the valley is narrow, and steep wooded slopes come right down to the far bank. The bridge links the roads on both sides of the river, and the camera stands on the right bank a little above the span.
The foreground is a rocky bank with a white guardrail at the lower right, and shallows with small rapids stretch toward the piers. The striped scale on the pier gives a quick visual gauge of the water level, which looks brown and fast after heavy rain.
