Weather and time
This view looks north across the Yamato River in Matsubara, Osaka Prefecture, from a fenced platform where a small channel meets the river. On the far bank a grassy levee runs in front of a long row of apartment blocks and low buildings.
The Yamato River crosses the Osaka plain from east to west on its way to Osaka Bay. Here it is a broad, slow stretch with vegetated banks and sandy patches, and the opposite bank is part of the city of Osaka. Matsubara lies on the southern side, and the camera sits low on the floodplain close to the water.
The foreground is thick grass and shrubs on both sides of the channel, with a metal fence, a warning sign and a striped step at the platform edge. The view stays fixed, so the water level, the sandy shallows by the far bank and the sky are what change from day to day.
