Weather and time
This camera watches the Furukawa River at the intake of an underground flood basin in Shirokane, Minato, central Tokyo. A narrow canal runs between stone-faced concrete walls beneath a road deck.
The station is in Shirokane 5-chome, close to Meiji-dori and the elevated expressway ramps near Tengenji. Kitasato Institute Hospital and the Embassy of France are each about 100 m away, and Tengenji Bridge, where the Shibuya River becomes the Furukawa, is about 350 m off. In heavy rain the intake sends floodwater into a 3.3 km tunnel under the river that stores up to 135,000 cubic metres.
A white railing fills the left side of the frame and a stepped stone wall rises on the right, so the dark water runs through a deep trench. Metal rungs run down the left wall.
