Beppu Tower View, Ōita Live Cam

Beppu Tower looks out over the city and the bay on the east coast of Kyushu, in Ōita prefecture in Japan. The camera takes in the beach, the coast road and the hills behind.

More hot water comes out of the ground here than anywhere in the world outside Yellowstone: something over two thousand vents, feeding the baths of the town and sending steam up between the roofs on a cold morning.

The tower went up in 1957 to a design by the engineer who also built Tokyo Tower and four others like it. Mount Tsurumi behind the city is reached by cable car and holds snow when the coast is mild.
