Weather and time
This camera watches the upper Asakawa River in the Ongata area of Hachioji as it runs between wooded banks. A gravel bar edges the left side of the dark channel, and a small bridge crosses the river in the distance.
The station stands in Shimo-Ongata-machi, near the point where the Asakawa begins its run from Mount Jinba in Hachioji toward the Tama River in Hino. Ongata Daiichi Elementary School is about 200 m to the north-west, and the temple Shingen-in stands about 250 m to the north-east. Ongata Kawarajuku Park, a small playground, is only a short walk from the water.
Unlike the concrete channels of the Tokyo lowlands, this view shows a natural valley stream with no walls at all. Tall dry grass fills the right foreground, tall trees lean over the left bank, and a forested ridge rises behind the far bridge.
