Weather and time
Piazza Matteotti is the main square of Sarzana, a small town at the eastern end of Liguria in northern Italy. The webcam looks across it from a palace on one side.
The cathedral a street away holds a painted crucifix signed and dated 1138, the oldest surviving dated panel painting in Italy. It was made when the bishopric moved here from the abandoned Roman town of Luni down the road.
The fortress on the edge of the old town was rebuilt by Florence in the 1480s to hold the pass into Tuscany. The square fills each August for an antiques fair that takes over most of the centre.
