Oranim Beach, Ashdod Live Cam

Oranim is one of the city beaches at Ashdod, on the Mediterranean coast about thirty kilometres south of Tel Aviv. The webcam looks over the shade canopies, the car park and the water.

The town is new and the place is old. Modern Ashdod was founded in 1956 on empty dunes; the mound of the Philistine city that carried the name lies a few kilometres inland and was occupied for some three thousand years before that.

The port south of the beach handles more cargo than any other in the country, which is why ships stand off the coast waiting for a berth. The sand here travels north on a current that has carried it up the coast from the Nile.
