Weather and time
This camera looks into a peregrine falcon nest box on the north side of the Spitaltor, an old gate tower in Weissenburg in Bayern. Its floor is a deep bed of pale gravel between weathered walls, and an arched stone opening on the right frames the roofs of the old town.
The Spitaltor began as a gate in the medieval town wall, and its core dates from the 14th century. After the town grew, it became the tower of the Spitalkirche zum Heiligen Geist, the church of the hospital founded in 1447. In 2022 a pair of peregrines raised three young in this box.
The lens looks across the gravel to the back of the box, with the arched entrance on the right, where a metal grating outside serves as a landing platform. A second camera films the outside of the box, while this one shows the scrape where the falcons lay eggs and raise chicks in spring.
