Weather and time
This camera looks at a white stork nest on the Haus der Begegnung, a community centre on the market square of Langquaid in Lower Bavaria. The nest of sticks rests in a white steel ring on a post, in front of a steep roof of red plain tiles.
Langquaid is a market town of about 5,900 people in the district of Kelheim, some 30 kilometres south of Regensburg. The meadows, ponds and riverbanks of the Große Laber valley around it give the local storks plenty of frogs, fish and insects. The town received its market rights in the 1280s.
The fixed camera sits close to the nest, so its rim and floor fill the lower half of the picture. During the breeding season chicks usually hatch in May and fledge six to eight weeks later. Outside the season the nest stands empty, with a tuft of grass growing in its centre.
