Peregrine Falcon Perch, Spitaltor, Weissenburg Live Cam

This camera on the Spitaltor in Weissenburg in Bayern watches the landing platform outside a peregrine falcon nest box high on the tower. Beyond the reddish stonework and the metal grating, steep tiled roofs and half-timbered houses lead towards a large church.

Weissenburg lies in the south of Middle Franconia and is the seat of the Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen district. It was a Free Imperial City from 1296 until 1802, and its medieval wall survives almost complete with its towers. The Spitaltor stands on the southern edge of the old town and became the tower of the hospital church after the town expanded in the 14th century.

The fixed camera looks past the box over the old town, so the falcons can be seen landing, resting on the grating and taking off. A tall church tower, a slim chimney, fields and low wooded hills line the horizon.
