Praia de Jericoacoara, Brazil Live Cam

The beach at Jericoacoara, on the windward coast of Ceará in northeastern Brazil, runs across this webcam view. Fishing boats sit on the wet sand at low tide, and kites from the schools along the shore cross the top of the frame.

Jericoacoara is a village inside a national park, reached across dunes and without paved streets, which is what kept it small. Steady trade winds blow here from around July to January and made the place a fixture for kitesurfing and windsurfing.

The tide moves a long way out and back across this shallow shelf, changing the shape of the beach through the day. In the evening people walk to the dune at the western end for the sunset, which is the fixed ritual of the village.
