Belém, Pará Live Cam

Guajará bay opens out below this webcam in the centre of Belém, capital of Pará state in northern Brazil. Apartment towers stand on the left, and the port with its sheds and a moored sailing vessel runs along the waterfront.

Belém sits near the mouth of the Amazon and works as the port for the whole region; the Ver-o-Peso market a short way along the shore has been trading river fish, fruit and herbs since the seventeenth century. The bay is fresh water, several kilometres wide, and carries everything from container ships to wooden riverboats.

The climate is equatorial and the afternoon downpour is so regular that people use it to tell the time. The overlay carries the temperature, which sits near thirty degrees most of the year.
