The shoreline at Saquarema runs below this webcam, in the Lakes Region east of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The lagoon channel and a working shore fill the foreground, with the open Atlantic and the surf beyond.

Saquarema calls itself the surfing capital of Brazil and has hosted international events since the 1970s; the break at Itaúna, a little east of the frame, is the one the contests use. The town sits between a large saltwater lagoon and the sea, with the Nazaré church on a rock above the water.
