Portonave, Navegantes Live Cam

The mouth of the Itajaí-Açu river opens out below this view, taken from the Itajaí side in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Ferries cross to Navegantes in the foreground, and quays and container cranes line both banks on the way out to the Atlantic.

Itajaí and Portonave opposite it form one of the busiest container complexes in southern Brazil, and pilot boats, tugs and fishing vessels share the channel with the ships. The passenger terminal, the tourist pier and the town centre stand on the near bank; the breakwater and its lighthouse are visible where the river meets the sea.

Ship movements run day and night and are easiest to follow at slack water. The stream is provided by a local broadcaster, and its logo and the date sit in the corner of the frame.
