Sheraton Waikiki Coastline live, HI Cam

Waikiki runs along the southern shore of Oahu at Honolulu, in Hawaii, with Diamond Head closing the view. The camera looks down the beach from a hotel on the front.

The sand is imported. Waikiki was marsh and taro until it was drained in the 1920s, and the beach has been built and rebuilt with sand barged in ever since, some of it originally from California and more recently dredged from offshore.

Diamond Head is a tuff cone thrown up in a single eruption about three hundred thousand years ago. The reef in front of the beach is a protected conservation district, which is why the water is full of fish a few metres from the hotels.
