Weather and time
This camera looks inside the two-toed sloth enclosure near the entrance of Honolulu Zoo, a mesh-walled space shaded by trees. A pet carrier fitted with a branch sits on a wooden shelf, and the sloth often sleeps curled up inside it.
Linnaeus's two-toed sloths live in the tropical forest canopy of South America. They are active mainly at night, sleep about fifteen hours a day and keep an unusually low body temperature that saves energy. The zoo's male, Quando, was born in 2003, and from 2015 onward he and the female Harriet raised a series of young at the zoo.
A wooden pole runs across the enclosure above the carrier, and a sagging shade cloth hangs from the mesh roof. Leafy plants grow on the right, and by day sunlight through the trees throws patterned shadows on the wire walls.
