Weather and time
This camera overlooks a bald eagle nest on a sea cliff of Catalina Island, California, and the steep hillside around it. Its picture moves between a close perch among prickly pear, rocky slopes and the cliff-edge nest above the ocean.
Catalina Island lies about 22 miles off the coast of southern California, and Two Harbors is the small settlement on its narrow isthmus. Bald eagles have been restored to the island by the Institute for Wildlife Studies since 1980. This is an alternate nest that the Two Harbors pair uses only from time to time.
Over a day the view passes through several scenes: the nest and the sea beyond the cliff, a steep rock face with a white streak, brush-covered slopes, and a perch among prickly pear that adult eagles use as a lookout. After dark the picture turns into a grey night view of the nest rim.
