River Retreat Lodge is a six-suite lodge on Old Irwin Road, in the Irwin part of Swan Valley in eastern Idaho. The valley lies along the South Fork of the Snake River, a fly-fishing river, and the Palisades Creek trail and Palisades Reservoir are a few minutes away.

The frame holds one fixed view across the pasture: a dry rocky bluff climbs on the right, a gravel road bends along its foot, and power lines cross the valley below a blue ridge on the left. It is a meadow and mountain view rather than a riverbank scene, and it shows the changing colours of the cottonwoods and the clouds over the valley.
