Weather and time
Osprey nest on a platform beside Rehoboth Bay in Dewey Beach, Delaware, seen from just above the nest. Beyond the sticks the frame shows the bay, a blue-striped waterfront building and a sandy lot.
Dewey Beach is a small resort town in Sussex County, on the narrow strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and Rehoboth Bay. The nest stands on the bay side, where the shore is edged with rocks and wooden docks. Ospreys migrate south for the winter, so in the cold months the nest usually stands empty.
The camera sits at the rim of the nest and looks across the sticks toward the bay, so the view stays fixed on the nest. Water and docks fill the left side, a sandy lot spreads to the right of the building. When the ospreys are home, they appear right in the foreground.
