Plaza Park, Las Vegas, New Mexico Live Cam

This rooftop view looks across the street to Plaza Park, the tree-filled central square of old West Las Vegas, New Mexico. Lawns, paths and tall trees fill the upper half of the frame, with the white bandstand among the trees on the left.

The Plaza is the heart of the old town, founded in 1835 and laid out around this central square. The town grew as a stop on the Santa Fe Trail, and in 1846 General Stephen Kearny proclaimed American rule over New Mexico from here. The Plaza Hotel, opened in 1882, still faces the square.

The camera looks down from a roof on the edge of the Plaza, so the foreground shows angled parking spaces and the roadway around the park. Farther back, a street leaves the square between older brick buildings at the upper right.
