Weather and time
This camera looks across the BNSF tracks in Las Vegas, New Mexico, from the historic Castañeda Hotel beside the depot. Several tracks and a gravel yard fill the middle of the frame, with the station platform and a brick wall below and scrub-covered hills rising behind.
The Santa Fe Railway built the Castañeda in 1898 and 1899 as a Fred Harvey hotel, and it reopened after restoration in 2019. The tracks are the BNSF Raton Subdivision, also used by Amtrak's Southwest Chief between Chicago and Los Angeles, which stops at the Las Vegas station.
The camera is a pan-tilt-zoom unit. Its usual picture is a wide view across the yard tracks toward the hills, and it can also be turned and zoomed toward trains at the station platform.
