Weather and time
This view from the ferry landing at Ironton looks across the narrows of the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix in northern Michigan. Two green hoist towers of the landing ramp frame the foreground, and a wooded shore with lakeside houses lines the far side.
The Ironton Ferry is a small cable ferry that carries up to four cars over the narrows, shortening the drive between Charlevoix and Boyne City. Service at the crossing began in 1876, and Charlevoix County still runs the ferry from spring until late autumn. The crossing is listed as a Michigan State Historic Site.
The camera faces the opposite landing, so the ferry can be followed across the water until its deck meets the ramp in the foreground. Motorboats and sailboats also pass through the narrows on their way along the South Arm.
