Ocean Point Inn, Boothbay Live Cam

Ocean Point is a headland at the mouth of the harbour at Boothbay, on the middle stretch of the coast of Maine. The camera looks over a lawn and a cove towards the islands.

The coast here is drowned: the sea flooded a set of parallel valleys after the ice, leaving long fingers of rock running out to sea with water between them. That is why the shoreline is so long relative to the distance covered.

Lobstering is the working trade and the buoys in the picture belong to it. The tide runs about three metres, and the water stays cold enough through the summer that swimming is a brief business.
