Weather and time
This camera looks out from Graham's Hide over the main lake at College Lake Nature Reserve, a former chalk quarry near Tring in Buckinghamshire. Low islands, reed beds and scrub-lined banks fill the frame, with ducks, coots and other waterbirds on the open water.
Chalk was once quarried at this 67-hectare site beside the hamlet of Bulbourne, and nature has since reclaimed the old workings, now a Site of Special Scientific Interest. In summer, lapwing and redshank breed on the marshland and common terns nest on purpose-built islands. Wigeon and teal arrive in winter.
The camera changes its view during the day: a wide shot reaches across the water to a long grassy island and the far shore, while closer shots pick out reed beds and birds resting on the lake. In autumn the reeds turn gold against the grey water.
