Weather and time
This camera looks over the treatment tanks of the Vidy wastewater treatment plant on the shore of Lake Geneva in Lausanne. Yellow railings run along the concrete tanks, and wide grey pipes cross above them toward a strip of grass and trees.
The Vidy plant was built in 1964 on the lakeshore near Parc Bourget and covers about 70,000 square metres. It cleans the wastewater of Lausanne and neighbouring municipalities before the treated water flows into Lake Geneva. A complete rebuild, begun in 2015, is under way while the plant stays in operation, and a later stage will add the removal of micropollutants.
The camera was installed so that the works can be followed day by day. From its raised position it takes in the walkways and stairs between the tanks, the overhead pipework, and pallets and equipment stored on the concrete deck in the foreground.
