Katwijk aan Zee, Netherlands Live Cam

Katwijk aan Zee is a fishing village turned resort on the North Sea coast of South Holland, in the Netherlands. The webcam looks along the beach and the promenade from a house on the front.

The Old Rhine reaches the sea here, or is let out to it. The river mouth silted shut in the Middle Ages and the water backed up inland for six centuries until sluices were cut through the dunes in 1807; the outfall is still worked to a schedule.

The village fleet used to be launched off the sand because there was no harbour, and the flat-bottomed boats were built to be dragged up the beach. The dune behind the promenade has a car park hidden inside it.
