Playa La Madera II Live Cam

Playa La Madera curves along the eastern side of Zihuatanejo Bay, under the hillside walkway that carries the webcam. The hotel above the path provides the feed.

The name records a trade: timber cut in the sierra behind the town was brought down and loaded from this beach. The bay is almost closed off by headlands, which keeps the water calm enough to swim straight off the sand.

Zihuatanejo was a fishing town and in the old quarter still looks like one. Ixtapa, seven kilometres north, was drawn on a map by the Mexican tourism development agency in the 1970s and built from nothing, under the same programme that produced Cancún.
