Weather and time
The Estrella de Puebla observation wheel turns on the left of this panorama over the city of Puebla in Mexico. The volcanoes stand on the horizon behind the rooftops, faint through the haze on most days.
Popocatépetl is the nearer of the two, an active cone of 5,426 metres that emits gas and ash regularly, with Iztaccíhuatl beside it. Both sit on the range that separates the Puebla valley from the Valley of Mexico.
Puebla is the fourth largest city in the country and stands at 2,135 metres, with a colonial centre listed by UNESCO. Clear morning air after rain gives the webcam its best view of the peaks, and by afternoon they are usually lost in cloud.
