McAllen Convention Center, Texas Live Cam

The McAllen Convention Center stands over its lawn and palm rows in this view from a hotel across the road in southern Texas. Parked cars and a shopping centre fill the ground behind it.

The building opened in 2007 and holds conventions, concerts, trade shows and theatre for the whole of the Rio Grande Valley. Oval Park and the Palms Crossing retail centre sit next to it, within the same block of development.

McAllen lies a few miles from the Mexican border, opposite Reynosa, in a subtropical belt where the palms stay green all winter. That climate brings a seasonal population from the northern states, which is what fills the car parks in the live picture between November and March.
