Griboyedov Channel Live Cam

The Griboyedov Canal runs west between granite embankments in central Saint Petersburg, followed here by the webcam. The gilded dome of St Isaac's Cathedral closes the view in the distance, above the roofs of the surrounding blocks.

The canal was cut in the eighteenth century along the bed of the small Krivusha river and winds through the historic centre, crossed by low bridges every few hundred metres. Cars stand nose-in along both embankments, and the buildings on either side are ordinary apartment blocks rather than palaces.

In June the sky here barely darkens, and the dome stays visible late into the night; in winter the canal freezes over and the embankments are cleared of snow. The cathedral dome is floodlit after dark all year.
