Weather and time
This camera looks southwest from just below the summit of Mount Nyotai across the Kanto Plain in Ibaraki Prefecture. Farmland, villages and roads fill the plain below, and a faint line of distant mountains marks the horizon.
Mount Nyotai, 877 m high, is the higher of the two peaks of Mount Tsukuba; the other, Mount Nantai, reaches 871 m. The mountain rises from the Kanto Plain in the city of Tsukuba and is counted among Japan's 100 famous mountains. Its night views are recognised as a Japan Night View Heritage site.
The view is an open panorama of the plain from about 850 m, with a wooded slope in the lower right corner. In clear weather Mount Fuji appears on the horizon right of centre, over 150 km away; on hazy days the far plain fades into the sky, and in low cloud the whole view turns grey.
