Weather and time
This underwater camera faces a steep coral slope at the edge of the reef wall off the south shore of Utila in the Bay Islands of Honduras. Sea fans, gorgonians and plate corals climb toward the upper right, and small fish drift through open blue water on the left.
Utila is known as a diving island, and the whale shark is among the animals divers look for around its reefs. On the south side the shallow reef ends in a wall that falls some 120 feet (37 m) to the sea floor. The camera is mounted about 400 feet (roughly 120 m) from shore at 30 feet (9 m), right where the reef top turns into that drop.
Coral crowds the lower right half of the frame, while the upper left looks out into the blue beyond the wall. Eagle rays, sharks and turtles are the larger animals reported at this spot, and schools of small fish cross in front of the corals.
