Live Cams in Madeira

Madeira, Portugal

The autonomous region of Madeira comprises the islands of Madeira, Porto Santo, Desertas and Selvagens, and has approximately 267 thousand inhabitants. Located in the Atlantic Ocean, 700 km off the coast of Africa, its subtropical, warm climate, lush green nature and amazing landscapes with high cliffs make Madeira a popular holiday destination all year round. Madeira Airport and Porto Santo Airport serve the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo respectively. While Porto Santo Airport is only served by taxis, in Madeira you can also take a bus or the aerobus. You can also book in advance an airport transfer to take you to the hotel (there are excellent accommodation options all across the island), or pick up your car rental, which is actually a great way of getting around. This green volcanic mountain that rises from the sea is always blooming, and its “always summer” climate allows vegetables and fruit to grow during the whole year, including bananas that grow even in the winter months. But there are differences between the North and the South: the northern areas are cooler and wetter, especially high in the mountains, where snowfall can actually occur in the coldest days, while the south part of the island is warmer and sunnier.Since the capital, Funchal, is located in the south area, it enjoys a wonderful weather, with an average summer temperature of around 25ºC and about 20ºC during the winter. It is also one of the safest and cleanest cities in Europe, and it hosts the main events of Carnival, the Flower Festival and the New Year’s Eve fireworks – if you got curious, watch these videos. Funchal also houses several museums, such as the CR7 Museum (football player Cristiano Ronaldo was born in Madeira), and offers unique experiences, like the Monte toboggan rides and the cable car. For those who prefer quieter moments, we suggest walking along the Lido promenade and the many botanical gardens. Watch our Funchal Marina and The Ritz Madeira live HD webcams to witness firsthand the live action in the city centre. In terms of activities, Madeira has much to offer. All around the island you will find great beaches and pools, all kinds of festivities, namely in Machico, Calheta, Câmara de Lobos, Madalena do Mar, Paul do Mar, the natural Lava pools in the village of Porto Moniz, including São Vicente, Caniçal, Porto da Cruz, Santana and Ponta Delgada, as well as typical restaurants where you can taste the main specialities (espetada, bolo do caco, Madeira wine or poncha). If you are a nature lover, discover the Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, during a levada walk.
