Camacha, Porto Santo Live Cam

Green hills and a rock peak stand behind the scattered houses of Camacha, in the north east of the island of Porto Santo. A dirt track runs down past sheds and a palm in the foreground.

Porto Santo lies 43 kilometres from Madeira, with a daily ferry from Funchal, and is far lower and drier than its neighbour. The slopes hold this colour only for a few weeks after the winter rain and are bare and yellow the rest of the year.

The nine-kilometre beach the island is known for is on the south coast, out of shot behind the ridge. The Cardina museum in the village keeps farm tools and household objects from the time before tourism, and the webcam looks over the fields that produced them.
