Hotel Quinta do Furão, Santana Live Cam

Vineyards on terraces run to the cliff edge at Quinta do Furão, on the north coast of Madeira in the municipality of Santana. The webcam looks east along the coast towards Ponta de São Lourenço.

The reserve below is Rocha do Navio, reached by a cable car that drops to a fajã, a shelf of land at the foot of the cliff left behind by an old landslide. People still keep cattle and grow crops down there.

Santana is known for its palheiros, small triangular houses with steep thatched roofs painted red and white, a few of which are kept in the middle of the town. The vines in the picture are trained low over the terraces, the way the island has always grown them.
