Tilghman Island Bridge, USA Live Cam

The bridge at Knapps Narrows joins Tilghman Island to the eastern shore of Chesapeake Bay, in Maryland in the United States. The camera looks at the lifting span and the boats waiting for it.

It opens more often than any other drawbridge in the country: several thousand times a year for watermen taking the short cut between the bay and the Choptank rather than going the long way round the island.

Tilghman is where the last of the skipjacks work. These shallow sailing dredgers are the only commercial fishing fleet in North America still working under sail, kept that way by a Maryland law that allows oyster dredging by engine on only two days of the week.
